On Saturday, 31 October 2009, SK Assunta 1, Petaling Jaya, conducted an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to vote on SK/SMK (SMI). An astounding 96.3% of the parents who attended wanted to maintain PPSMI in their school.
Earlier, SMK St Xavier's Institution, Penang, convened its EGM and an astonishing 94% of parents want PPSMI to remain.
What is your school doing about it? Time is ticking fast.

Now the government is talking about single stream school. Should solve the PPSMI issue first. Government should not be afraid to conduct a referendum for parents to decide whether they want PPSMI. We cannot leave our children's future to the clowns in parliament.
I personally hope that my fellow Sarawakians will conduct survey in every school pertaining to PPSMI. Nevertheless, I have the feeling that the vast majority of us prefer PPSMI.

100% vote for PPSMI! Govt should not waste time in abolishing PPSMI.Imagine the amount of time will be wasted in translating from English to BM. Not productive. Should focus more on reducing cost of living and escalating cost of property by enforcing the old RPGT to curb speculation rather than taxing us 5% for revenue (not to curb speculation per se as RPGT main purpose is to curb speculation and not for revenue).
One year wasted on PPSMI issue and not settled.Back & forth back & forth still no solution. What lah!
All schools must now ask parents to vote on whether to be given the option to keep ppsmi. If parents support, then they should voice them all out to the PM and DPM plus a warning to them that they will know who we will all vote for in the next election if they still remain stubborn.
We are a democratic country and the national leaders are appointed by us voters to serve our needs, not the other way round. Democracy is people's power not authoritarian power.

i guess till today the ministry still stick on its decision especially after muhyiddin said it in the parliament that it's over for ppsmi and its final.

SJKC attract the Chinese, SJKT attract the Indians whilst SK attract the Malays.
What SK/SMK (SMI) will attract are the true Malaysians, multi-cultured, multi-lingual, multi-racial, the 1Malaysia type of school that will unite all Malaysians.
If one of the Key Results Areas (KRA) of the Education Ministry is creating “high performance schools,” then I would suggest that it allow these schools to also use English as the medium of education for Science and Maths.
Even with PPSMI, more than 60% of the subjects in Sekolah Kebangsaan are taught in Malay, hence there is no fear whatsoever that the national language will be neglected.
If schools have adequately trained English teachers, and teach Maths and Science in English, they will in time become the “preferred schools” for parents and children. These schools will lead in the eventual creation of a single stream.
The Government of the day must be bold enough to encourage the evolution of schools which will be the school of choice for as many Malaysian parents as possible.
We cannot dismantle vernacular schools in the foreseeable future but we can surely bring about schools of choice where children of different races will study together from young.
An avenue must first be created for parents to make that decision for their children which will contribute to a sort of single stream school.
The schools of choice that can be created are selected national schools where Science and Mathematics are taught in English from Year One.
The Government of the day must be courageous enough to bring these schools into reality.
Never mind if there are parents who are sceptical. In time and after seeing the benefits for their children, these schools will truly be the school of choice.
They will also be the flag-bearers of 1Malaysia. The School of Choice under the Pelan Induk Pembangunan Pendidikan (PIPP 2006-2010) has sunk into oblivion. Let’s resurrect the schools of choice and we will definitely reap the results within a short time.
The PM should just do it for the sake of Malaysia.
Many will back him up all the way.
The politicians dare not decide as they are afraid of losing votes. A referendum for parents to express their choice will be the most ideal democratic process. We, as parents have the right to decide for our children. Let the parents decide which schools to continue with PPSMI and which schools to have the two subjects taught in BM. In the meantime, besides expressing ourselves in this blog, I suggest that as many of us regularly write to the press to keep the spirit alive. Otherwise, the government and the rest of the nation would take for granted that everyone is no more in favour of PPSMI. Please don't give up. We do not have to worry of losing votes.
